Schools, community groups, and local reporters from across the Commonwealth have taken part in the Jubilee Time Capsule, adding thousands of brilliant entries that explore both local and global history. Special praise goes to our team of SuperSchools who have used the Jubilee Time Capsule as a vehicle for exploring the history of the Commonwealth, as well as developing their digital literacy skills.
Schools and community groups are encouraged to continue using the Jubilee Time Capsule as a learning tool, and keep checking the Royal Commonwealth Society website for announcements on our upcoming youth and education projects.
Following the success of the JTC, we’d love to see all of the JTC SuperSchools taking part in the 2013 Commonwealth Essay Competition.
Run by the RCS since 1883, the Commonwealth Essay Competition is the world's oldest and largest schools' international writing competition. Past winners include Mr Lee Hsien Loong, the Prime Minister of Singapore and Elspeth Huxley.
The competition celebrates and nurtures the creative talents of young people across the Commonwealth, providing a platform for students to compete with their peers in each of the 54 nations which make up this unique association. The competition is free to enter and entrants are judged in two age groups, Junior (under 14 years) and Senior (14-18 years).
For 2013, the competition will be run in partnership with Cambridge University Press and the deadline is Wednesday 1 May 2013. For more information click here.
Our dedicated team of Community Reporters has used the Jubilee Time Capsule to report on local people’s stories and memories from the last 60 years. Community Reporters have received support in developing their skills and have been given a space in which to share important community stories.
Scouts, Guides, local archives and libraries have all contributed to the Jubilee Time Capsule’s success, from submitting images of local floods to sharing the story of how their association celebrated the Diamond Jubilee, our groups have added great colour to the Capsule.
